It is an endemic plant to Japan.
We call it "Hime-shaga" and it doesn't have English name.
But it is a kind of "Iris", so many people have seen this shape, I guess.
"Hime" basically means "princess", and sometimes expresses "pretty" "cute" and "small thing".
It is very small... its plant length is about 20-30 cm as its name suggests.
There is only one blooming "Hime-shaga" in my garden.
I hope it show me many flowers next week.

Hi. Just come across your site by accident. We have this plant in our garden in the UK. My wife recalled it being depicted in Van Gough's painting. How tall yours grows? The Iris in our garden flowers this May which is half to one month early than last year. A very strange mixture in our garden. We have Peony next to Iris and Rose all stand in a row and the Sage tree appears at the end. What other plants do you grow?
Thank you for your comment!
I know that Van Gogh drew iris.
And folwer in my photo is also a kind of iris.
But my iris is very small.
Its plant length is only about 20-30 cm... probably it is third part of or less normal irises.
I've posted flowers in my garden so far.
Chinese bellflower, dianthus and hydrangea will bloom soon.
And I grow a fragrant orange-colored olive, too.
